Locals often frequent the historic downtown for shopping or a bite to eat and then head out to one of the area's exquisite parks to enjoy Maryland’s stunning natural ecosystem. Frederick has ample opportunities to support an active lifestyle, with some of the best hiking in the area, and many dedicated bike lanes.

The ideally located community stands right in the center of a historic hub. Frederick is situated perfectly for residents to enjoy day trips to Gettysburg, Lancaster, and countless other attractions and historic sites in the surrounding area. The bustling cities of Baltimore and Washington, D.C. are both within an hour of Frederick, making it a good place for commuters to settle down.    Frederick County is also home to the Presidential Retreat, Camp David, in the nearby Catoctin Mountains.

Historic downtown Frederick is home to an array of one-of-a-kind shopping boutiques and local eateries. Located at the heart of the charming downtown is Brewer’s Alley. This upscale pub serves a selection of house-label microbrews and kid-friendly cuisine. Those looking for a unique place to stop and grab a beer should check out Firestone’s Culinary Tavern. This pub brings guests back in time with a vintage tin ceiling and a stunning mahogany bar. They also serve over 80 beers.

The posh eatery The Tasting Room has been serving innovative, modern American fare since 2000 and quickly became a local favorite. With an elegant feel and extensive wine list, this is a restaurant where guests come back time and time again. Those looking for a stunning event center can head to the local Citizens Ballroom.

A stroll down the Carroll Creek Walk will reveal the beautiful man-made canal with koi, gorgeous lily pads in bloom, and other aquatic beauty. There are many restaurants and businesses that line the walkway as well. A stroll midway will bring visitors to the Delaplaine Arts Center and also countless Breweries.
 

Things to Do

Living in Frederick has an array of things to do. The town hosts several annual festivals throughout the year, meaning locals always have something to look forward to. For over 30 years, In the Streets Festival has brought joy to area residents. The festival, held annually in September, allows guests to learn more about historic Frederick and enjoy great food and live entertainment. One of the most beloved Frederick traditions is The Great Frederick Fair. This nine-day fair brings agricultural experiences, a midway, and great shopping.

Locals often head to the beautiful sprawling green space at Baker Park on the Fourth of July for a fun-filled festival. Guests can enjoy family-friendly rides, entertainment, and fireworks. Carroll Creek Park is a great place to check out year-round for stunning waterfront views. This park is located on a creekside floodplain and features some very unique art… Be sure to see the Bridge and check out both sides for an interesting surprise!

Frederick is known for being home to a vibrant art scene. Each year, the town's artistic talent is celebrated at the Frederick Festival of the Arts. More than 100 local artists assemble to show off works of all mediums. Residents can also check out the Delaplaine Arts Center. There, seven galleries display works from both local and worldwide artists. With over 50 exhibits a year, there is always something to check out.
